Bangle size chart India using the traditional Anna sizing system. Find your size at home in under 2 minutes.

Bangles need to pass over your entire hand, which makes sizing trickier than rings. Get it wrong and you’re stuck with a bangle that either won’t fit or falls right off. The good news? Measuring is simple once you know what to look for. And every bangle from Chaitra comes with free exchanges if you need a different size.

How to Measure Your Bangle Size at Home

Pick whichever method works for you.

Method 1: Measure Your Hand (Recommended)

You’ll need: Flexible measuring tape, or a strip of paper and ruler

How to measure bangle size India by hand circumference method

  1. Bring your fingers and thumb together tightly, like you’re making a beak shape.
  2. This is the widest point your bangle needs to pass over.
  3. Wrap the measuring tape around this part of your hand.
  4. Note the circumference in centimetres.
  5. Match your measurement in the circumference chart below.

Tip: Keep your hand relaxed but fingers pressed together. Too tight and the bangle won’t fit. Too loose and it’ll fall off.

Key Finding: Measure your hand at the widest point (fingers pressed together), not your wrist. Bangles must pass over your entire hand to fit, so wrist measurement alone will give you the wrong size.

Method 2: Measure an Existing Bangle

You’ll need: A bangle that fits you well, and a ruler

Measuring bangle inner diameter with ruler for Indian size chart

  1. Take a bangle that fits you comfortably.
  2. Place it flat on a ruler.
  3. Measure the inner diameter (the distance across the inside).
  4. Match your measurement in the diameter chart below.

Important: Measure the inner diameter, not the outer. The difference can be 1-2 sizes.

Understanding the Anna Sizing System

Anna sizing is the traditional Indian method for bangles. Once you understand it, the numbers make sense.

What Do the Numbers Mean?

Anna sizes are written as two numbers with a hyphen, like 2-6 or 2-10.

  • First number (2): The base measurement in inches (approximately 2 inches)
  • Second number (2-12): Additional increments in annas (each anna = 1/16th of an inch)

So size 2-6 means: 2 inches + 6/16 inch = 2.375 inches diameter

Key Finding: Anna sizes use 1/16th inch increments. Size 2-6 equals 2 inches + 6/16 inch = 2.375 inches = 60mm inner diameter. This system has been used by Indian jewellers for generations.

2-62 + 6/162.375″60mm
2-82 + 8/162.5″63mm
2-102 + 10/162.625″67mm

Bangles vs Kadas: What’s the Difference?

They look similar but size very differently.

FeatureBanglesKadas
DesignClosed circular bandOpenable (hinge or gap)
How you wear themSlip over the handOpen and clasp on wrist
What to measureHand circumferenceWrist circumference
FitSlightly loose on wristSnug on wrist

Key Finding: Kadas are typically 1-2 sizes smaller than bangles for the same person. This is because kadas clasp around the wrist, while bangles must pass over the entire hand.

Key point: Bangles are sized for your hand. Kadas are sized for your wrist.

Kadas Size Guide

Kadas (also spelled kadhas or karas) are openable bangles that clasp around your wrist. Since they don’t pass over your hand, sizing is simpler.

How to Measure for Kadas

  1. Wrap a measuring tape around your wrist, just below the wrist bone.
  2. Note the circumference in centimetres.
  3. Add 1-1.5 cm for comfort (unless you want a tight fit).
  4. Match to the chart below.

Kadas Size Chart

18 – 192-6 to 2-7Comfortable
19 – 202-7 to 2-8Comfortable
20 – 212-8 to 2-9Relaxed

Fit Preferences

  • Snug: Stays in place, doesn’t move much. Choose your exact wrist size.
  • Comfortable: Slight movement, most popular. Add 0.5-1 cm to wrist size.
  • Relaxed: Moves freely on wrist. Add 1-1.5 cm to wrist size.

Tips for Accurate Bangle Measurement

Timing Matters

  • Best time: Evening, when hands are slightly larger
  • Avoid: Early morning or right after cold exposure
  • Temperature: Hands swell in heat, shrink in cold. Measure at room temperature.

Key Finding: Hands swell throughout the day and in warm weather. Evening measurements at room temperature give the most accurate sizing for bangles.

Which Hand?

  • Measure the hand you’ll wear bangles on.
  • In India, married women traditionally wear on the right hand.
  • Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger.

Measure a Few Times

  • Take 2-3 measurements on different days.
  • If results vary, go with the larger size.
  • A bangle that’s too small simply won’t fit over your hand.

Planning to Stack?

If you’ll wear multiple bangles together (traditional Indian style), they’ll fit tighter when stacked. Consider going half a size up if you plan to wear 4 or more at once.

Key Finding: Unlike rings, most bangles cannot be resized because they’re closed circles. Getting the correct size from the start is critical. At Chaitra, we offer free exchanges if your size isn’t right.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most common bangle size for Indian women?

Sizes 2-4, 2-6, and 2-8 are most common for Indian women. For gifts when you don’t know the exact size, 2-6 (60mm diameter) is the safest choice as it fits most average-sized hands.

What’s the difference between bangles and kadas?

Bangles are closed circles that slip over the hand. Kadas open and clasp around the wrist. Because of this difference, kadas are typically 1-2 sizes smaller than bangles for the same person.

How do I measure my bangle size at home?

Bring your fingers together tightly (like a beak shape) and measure the circumference at the widest point. Match this to our circumference chart. Alternatively, measure the inner diameter of a bangle you already own.

What does Anna size mean in Indian bangles?

Anna is the traditional Indian sizing system. The second number (like the 6 in 2-6) represents 1/16th inch increments added to 2 inches. So 2-6 means 2.375 inches or 60mm diameter.

Should I size up or down if I’m between sizes?

For bangles, always size up. A bangle that’s too small won’t fit over your hand at all. For kadas, size down for snug fit, size up for relaxed fit.

Can bangles be resized?

Unlike rings, most bangles cannot be resized because they’re closed circles. Kadas with hinges can sometimes be adjusted slightly. Getting the right size from the start matters. At Chaitra, we offer free exchanges if you need a different size.

Do bangle sizes vary between brands?

Slightly. The Anna system is standard across India, but manufacturing can cause small variations. Our chart follows standard Indian measurements used by most reputable jewellers.

How should a bangle fit?

It should slide over your hand with slight resistance, then rest comfortably on your wrist with room to move. Not so tight it leaves marks, not so loose it falls off.

How do I convert bangle size to mm?

Use our diameter chart. For example: Size 2-6 = 60mm, Size 2-8 = 63mm. Each anna increment adds approximately 1.5-2mm to the diameter.

What bangle size is 2.4 inches?

2.4 inches (approximately 61mm) falls between size 2-6 (60mm) and 2-7 (62mm). Choose 2-6 for a snug fit or 2-7 for a more comfortable fit.

Is bangle size the same as bracelet size?

No. Bangle size is based on inner diameter (must pass over hand). Bracelet size is based on wrist circumference plus clasp length. They use different measurement systems. See our bracelet size guide for chain bracelets.

What if my left and right hands are different sizes?

Measure the hand you’ll wear bangles on. In India, married women traditionally wear on the right hand. Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger, so measure that one if unsure.

Can I wear bangles if I have large knuckles?

Yes, but size for your knuckles, not your wrist. Measure the widest part of your hand (usually across the knuckles with fingers pressed together) and match to our circumference chart. The bangle needs to pass over this point.
